We want to be in Russia for Carl Ikeme – Super Eagles technical adviser

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has described the September 1, Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as a big challenge for the Nigerian national football team.

Rohr, who was expected to submit his list of players to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday, told journalists after the CHAN Eagles 2-0 win over Benin Republic in Kano that the team will be focused ahead of the double header encounter, noting that Cameroon would want to prove tough to his lads.

The Franco-German coach was however optimistic that his boys will overcome the Indomitable Lions toughness, assuring that the inclusion of some of his reliable players who missed the last game against South Africa will make the difference.

He however regretted the loss of the team’s first choice keeper, Carl Ikeme, even as he pledged that the Eagles will win the game for him.

“We must remain focused on Cameroon game. This will be a big challenge for us.

“A coach is always optimistic, we have recovered some injured players – Mikel Obi is coming back, we missed him so much in the last game.

“We have also Victor Moses and Leon Balogun, both are also coming back from injuries, we missed all of them but unfortunately we don’t have our goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, who is sick, but we will do it for him, we want to win for him and to bring him with us to Russia”.

The NFF is expected to release the list of player this week as the Eagles camp will be expected to open next week in Abuja before the team’s final training in Uyo, ahead of the September 1 cracker.
